Spidey-stravaganza (August 1)

A few sneaky clips of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield made their way into the mind-boggling Across The Spider-Verse recently—and with all of Sony’s Spidey films dropping on Prime Video, there’s no better time to have a weekend-long friendly neighbourhood marathon. Nothing will ever top Sam Raimi’s original 2000s trilogy, where each villain is made painfully human and Peter Parker is still an utterly hopeless dork. Yes, we even back the third Maguire movie, wherein Spidey adopts an emo side-fringe and performs some light jazz piano at MJ’s part-time club gig.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (August 4)

Based on a celebrated novel that your mum definitely read for her book club, this new Australian series features an all-star cast in a tale of blooming family secrets. Sigourney Weaver has come way down to the bottom of the planet to star as an orphan’s gruff grandmother, with gorgeous landscapes and native flora setting the stage for the kid’s coming-of-age. Local stars Leah Purcell and Asher Keddie flesh out the ensemble.

Red, White and Royal Blue (August 11)

Are you a flag-waving patriot/royalist and a rom-com lover at the same time? This frothy bit of enemies-to-lovers fun will be right up your alley, bringing together the sexy sons of the US’s first female President and the British monarch in a cross-Atlantic feud that turns frisky. Stephen Fry stars as the King, and Uma Thurman as Madame President, and they should have a ball raising their all-powerful eyebrows at the blossoming romance between their spoiled kids.
