Welcome to the Blumhouse (October 6 and 13)
Four storeys—sorry,
stories—of horror, each brimming with an exceptional dramatic cast. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum seems to be billing himself as a 21st century Rod Serling, and as long as he keeps putting out mid-budget horror hits like these, I’m kind of cool with it. A collection of four suspense films (
Black Box,
Evil Eye,
The Lie and
Nocturne) all revolving around themes of family, intimacy and domesticity, Welcome to the Blumhouse’s cast includes Peter Sarsgaard, Joey King, Phylicia Rashad, Sydney Sweeney and Sunita Mani. They are all ‘under one roof’ and fighting for their lives, or at least their sanity. Sounds uncomfortably familiar.
Best Brit buds Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are reunited in this eight-part series, which follows a paranoid group of paranormal investigators who may have just stumbled onto the real deal. As Nick Frost’s Gus and his motley crew of believers stake out old abandoned churches, bunkers and hospitals with their artillery of clunky homemade gizmos, the mates become embroiled in an actual cult. I bet the results will be like 30% freaky, 20% fuelled by the intricacies of male friendship, and 50% hilarious. Malcolm McDowell also co-stars!
Is this filmed version of Rihanna’s live fashion show the closest you’re going to get to a bougie live experience right now? Probably, and if it had to be anything, I’m glad it’s
Savage X Fenty’s latest vision of cutting-edge, inclusive glamour. Rihanna’s last
Savage X Fenty show was hailed as an upgrade from the rigid beauty conventions of glorified pageants such as Miss America and Victoria’s Secret, meaning anyone interested in checking out the latest trends in fashion, beauty, and lingerie will be seeing those looks on models like Lizzo, Demi Moore, and drag queens Gigi Goode and Jaida Essence Hall. Musical performers include Travis Scott, Rosalia, Bad Bunny, and Roddy Ricch.
