Top picks

Tell Me Lies: Season 2 (September 4)

A steamy college romance based on the novel of the same name, this returning drama captures the relationship between two students over the course of eight turbulent years. Grace Van Patten is Lucy, a freshman trying to cope with her own murky past when she collides into the meaty arms of Jackson White’s junior Stephen, who may be even more complicated than she is. Picking up the pieces after a breakup at the end of season one, the pair find themselves drawn helplessly back into their addictive dynamic. It’s basically all those texts from your codependent, lovesick friend adapted into episodic form—and none of your “girl kick him to the curb!!!” messages are coming through.

In Vogue: The ’90s (September 13)

Featuring probably the most conventionally attractive cast in history, this fashion industry doco examines the influence of juggernaut mag Vogue upon the 90s hottest trends, people, and moments. From the multiple generations of iconic supermodels the publication turned into household names, to designers like McQueen and Galliano finding the spotlight: it’ll be an education in the high life for outsiders, and a who’s-who celebration for those who pore over every glossy issue. Anna Wintour takes centre stage, of course, never doffing her trademark sunnies for even the most intimate talking head interviews.

Agatha All Along (September 19)

Kathryn Hahn is rebuilding her coven, and we absolutely want to be part of it. Since being trapped in a dull New Jersey town at the end of MCU series WandaVision, Hahn’s manipulative witch Agatha Harkness has been able to escape with the help of some new familiars and rising witches who want a taste of her dark magic. The cast is delicious, featuring Sasheer Zamata, Patti Lupone as a “450-year-old Sicilian witch” and Aubrey Plaza as “a warrior witch.” The spin-off has changed titles a few times, with “Agatha: The Lying Witch with the Great Wardrobe” jokingly considered at one point…it’s a mouthful, but gives you an idea of the chaos we’re in for.
