Murder mystery drama inspired by the live of Robert Durst - the black sheep of a wealthy New York real estate dynasty accused of multiple murders. Stars Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst and Frank Langella.
Durst is suspected (but never tried) of killing his wife - who disappeared never to be found in 1982 - and later his friend who was supposedly about to lift the lid on Durst's secrets. Then in 2001, when Durst was hiding in Texas (pretending to be a mute woman), he was arrested for the murder of his neighbour Morris Black. Black's dismembered body was found in pieces in Galveston Bay. Durst pleaded self defence and was acquitted of murder.
Produced and directed by Andrew Jarecki (director of the Academy Award-nominated doc Capturing the Friedmans and producer of Catfish). Jarecki would revisit Durst in the explosive 6-part HBO documentary series, The Jinx (2015).
