Caught by the Tides

Filmmaker Jia Zhangke (Ash is Purest White) earned his sixth Palme d'Or nomination for this experimental film that tells an across-the-ages love story and depicts the cultural change of a nation while also repurposing footage from the past two decades. The story starts in early 2000s China, where Qiao Qiao and Guao Bin share a passionate but fragile love. When Guao Bin disappears to try his luck in another province, Qiao Qiao decides to go looking for him.
