The era of Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond began here. 007 faces off a rogue agent (Sean Bean) believed to have been dead, but is now attempting to hijack a nuclear space weapon. Co-stars Judi Dench as M, the first of seven times the Oscar-winning actress plays the role.
The deadly weapon, codename ‘GoldenEye’, is an armed satellite capable of mass destruction – and now it’s dangerously close to being controlled by a man intent on causing a global catastrophe. To prevent the GoldenEye from falling into the wrong hands, Bond races to Russia to confront the mastermind, aided by the sole survivor of a destroyed research centre.
Director Martin Campbell would return to help reboot the series a decade later with 2006's Casino Royale, which was very good. He would also go on to direct 2011's Green Lantern, which wasn't very good.
