Gaylene Preston profiles the noted Māori poet Hone Tūwhare in this short documentary.
'He showed us many masks as we travelled around with him. I think that is what makes the documentary so agile - you can't cut Hone straight. He must go round. He didn't want to talk about the past. When Janet Paul saw the film, she thanked me for it and made the comment that Hone wasn't good at talking about the past. "Emotional amnesia" she said.' (Gaylene Preston)
