French filmmaker and comedian Jacques Tati's third feature, and first in colour. The nearly dialogue-free narrative follows Tati's pipe-smoking, unemployed Monsieur Hulot as he spends his days being a bad influence on his adoring nephew and wrestling with a new world of plastics and mechanics. Concerned about his future, Hulot's relatives attempt to find him employment and pair him off with a neighbour, with little success on either front.
