NZ Opera: Semele

NZ Opera presents Handel's Semele, filmed at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, in October 2020. Directed by Rebecca Tansley (Crossing Rachmaninoff), Semele stars Emma Pearson and Amitai Pati (SOL3 MIO).

Handel’s Baroque masterpiece, drawn from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, explores a love triangle between Jupiter, King of the Gods, his wife, the goddess Juno, and his lover, the mortal princess Semele. 

The cast also includes Sarah Castle and Paul Whelan, and is supported by the Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus and the Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir. An orchestra under the baton of Peter Walls ONZM brings Handel’s score to life.
