Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers, Ghost Dog) received another Palme d’Or nomination at Cannes 2013 for this slowburning, darkly comic story of centuries-old vampires Adam and Eve, played by Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton. Adam is holed up in rundown Detroit, making droney guitar music, while Eve fills her nights with literature in Tangier. As she sets off to see Adam, Eve begins to realise he's spiralling into existential despair. Co-stars Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt and Anton Yelchin.
"Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician (Hiddleston), deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover (Swinton). Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister (Wasikowska). Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?" (Cannes Film Festival)
