The movie that started the phenomenon. Star Wars, later rechristened A New Hope when sequels started to be made, tells the story of an orphan called Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), a simple farm boy who finds himself involved in a galactic battle against the evil Empire - led by the Darth Vader - and its powerfully destructive space station called The Death Star.
Other characters included the headstrong Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), the wise old 'Jedi Knight' Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guiness) and the cocky pilot Han Solo (Harrison Ford), his right-hand man Chewbacca, and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2.
