Sandy Dennis (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?) plays a rich but lonely woman in Robert Altman's unconventional psycho-thriller drama, managing to coerce a handsome 19-year-old into her home. The teen, pretending to be mute, is then imprisoned and supplied with food, water and even a prostitute. Altman reportedly turned down a very keen Jack Nicholson for the male lead because he was “just too old” at the time.
