Lost footage intended for the 1975 classic Grey Gardens resurfaces, detailing the summer of 1972.
“Before the Maysles brothers began work on their seminal documentary, they were hired as crewmembers by photographer-artist Peter Beard, and his friend Lee Radziwill, Jackie Onassis’s younger sister. The intention was to make a film about Lee and Jackie’s Hamptons childhood, but it was abandoned. The footage went missing for 45 years. Swedish filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson, experienced in the art of found footage, has taken Beard’s material and inserted footage shot by Andy Warhol and Jonas Mekas. The outcome is a poignant, almost dreamy record of life at Grey Gardens. Amid the crumbling walls and overgrown garden, the elegant Radziwill attempts to intervene in the lives of her reclusive aunt and cousin.” (Sydney Film Festival)
