The revered Studio Ghibli is the focus of this documentary that offers a glimpse inside arguably the most heralded animation studio of the modern era. At the time the doco is being shot, Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle) is working on what he states will be his last film, The Wind Rises, storyboarding the film by hand, before his team draws each frame.
Meanwhile, Ghibli’s Isao Takahata is working equally laboriously on The Tale of Princess Kaguya. Between the two creative forces lies producer and company co-founder Toshio Suzuki, the relationship between the three men lending insight to Ghibli’s long-running enigmatic success.
