Tom Ripley (Damon) is a grifter who takes advantage of a misunderstanding to travel to Italy and bring back a wealthy man's son, Dickie (Law). There, Ripley takes a liking to Dickie's wealthy lifestyle, and begins to worm his way into the idyllic lives of Dickie and his girlfriend (Paltrow), setting in motion a sequence of lies and violence.
