The Tales of Hoffman (MetOpera)

The 2009-2010 MetOpera Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera's third season of live performances, featuring nine transmissions with many of the world's greatest singers featured in brand new roles. James Levine, Music Director at the Met, says "This is a wonderful balance of repertory that includes four new works and a number of great operas that haven't been performed for a long time". THE TALES OF HOFFMAN - Jacques Offenbach (3 hours / 2 intermissions)
Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) directs this new production, returning after the triumph of his Met Barber of Seville (seen live in HD in the 2006–07 season). Offenbach's fictionalized take on the life and loves of the German Romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann is a fascinating psychological journey. Met Music Director James Levine conducts star tenor Joseph Calleja in the tour-de-force title role, with Anna Netrebko as the tragic Antonia, Elīna Garanča as the ambiguous Nicklausse, and Alan Held as the demonic four villains.
