Burt Lancaster stars in this John Frankenheimer wartime thriller as a French resistance fighter trying to prevent the theft of valuable artworks by a Nazi colonel who has secured a train to get the paintings to Germany.
During WWII, with Paris on the cusp of liberation, Colonel Franz von Waldheim (Paul Scofield, A Man for All Seasons) plans to smuggle France's greatest paintings out of the country. However, a group of French resistance fighters led by station master Paul Labiche (Lancaster) will do anything to stop that train and its cargo from leaving. Inspired by real-life events, The Train also stars Jeanne Moreau.
