Directed by Granaz Moussavi (My Tehran For Sale), this Afghan-Australian drama was inspired by real events. Hewad is a nine year old cart pusher on the dangerous streets of Kabul, selling everything from pomegranate juice to balloons and protection from the evil eye.
Working to raise money for his family following the loss of his father and brother, Hewad believes that only he can prevent his mother's forced remarriage. However his main goal is to become a movie star and when he meets an Australian photographer he believes he is closer to having his dream fulfilled.
When Pomegranates Howl was selected as the Australian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
