The World Cup has given us heaps of remarkable performances over the years, of course: Australia has been the most successful team, winning the tournament a record five times. Their dominance in the late 1990s and early 2000s, often led by legendary players like Ricky Ponting and Glenn McGrath, made the team a formidable force. Other notable winners include India, who triumphed in 1983 and 2011, and the West Indies, who won the first two editions in 1975 and 1979.
From the flamboyance of Sir Vivian Richards to the masterclass batting of Sachin Tendulkar, the tournament has provided a platform for players to showcase their abilities on the world stage. Memorable moments, such as the last-over heroics of Javed Miandad in 1992 or the record-breaking six-hitting spree by Chris Gayle in 2015, have become part of cricketing folklore. Make sure you don’t miss this season’s sensational moments: there’s sure to be a few.
