Australian box office report: Minions and Top Gun knock Elvis off the stage
Is this just school holiday crowds, or…a case of the #gentleminions taking over? Minions: The Rise of Gru rises to the top of the box office with a cumulative total of $23.4 million in two weeks, forcing Elvis to drop to the third spot—not leaving the building completely, though, with a nice $8 million in its own second week.
Top Gun: Maverick is still performing well in week six, taking another $8 million, and after a strong premiere day Thor: Love and Thunder is already at $4.4 million. Prepare for Thor’s domination next week, basically.
There’s a big gap between other school holiday options Lightyear ($2 million this week) and My Sweet Monster ($127k), and it’s neat to see that audiences are still discovering Everything Everywhere All At Once, which raked in another $180k.
Here are the top 10 films at the Australian box office, June 29—July 7.
