Australian cinemas are selling and delivering choc-tops for your home viewing pleasure
Now that plenty of movies are being released onto ‘home premiere’ rather than waiting for traditional cinemas to re-open, you can almost have the perfect movie-going experience from your very own couch. That’s right, I said ‘almost’. Because if you can’t pair your film with handfuls of salty popcorn and the choc-top flavour of your choice, what’s the point of it all?
Luckily for movie fans, there’s a way you can support your favourite cinemas while they’re shut down and enjoy all the traditional movie snacks you’ve been craving. Both the Hoyts chain of cinemas and Melbourne’s Cinema Nova are offering choc-top and popcorn; a clever way to turn some kind of profit and to maintain locals’ fond relationship with the in-person cinema experience.
Via UberEats, Hoyts is offering snack combos from all of their 34 locations around Australia, delivered to your door. That includes chips and confectionary, your traditional salty popcorn as well as gourmet varieties, and five delicious varieties of choc-top.
Meanwhile, Lygon Street’s iconic Cinema Nova is holding a flash sale this weekend. On Saturday, choc tops will be a mere $2. Sweet! If you’re unfamiliar with Nova’s exciting range of choc tops, some of the flavours on offer include chilli chocolate, peanut butter, and strawberry yoghurt, alongside the classic flavours you’d expect.
FLASH SALE! We’ve been teasing you with choctop pictures for long enough, now come and get some at our over-the-counter…

The venue’s also selling off some of their old movie posters, so be alert on Saturday May 9 to snap up some art from some recent and beloved films.
If you’re not a big snacker when you go to the movies, another great option is to purchase a voucher from your favourite independent theatre. It’s some financial support that your local will really appreciate, and most gift vouchers are valid well into the future (including Nova, which has a three-year expiry!), meaning that when you’re out of self-isolation, you can cash them in for future movie magic!
