Brisbane to get new $12 million film and TV studio
The film industry in Queensland is set to receive a major boost, with the announcement of a new $12 million film and television studio to be built in Brisbane. Queensland premier Anastacia Palaszcuk made the announcement late last week, as part of a plan to make the state a ‘film friendly’ location.
Palaszcuk was overseas when she delivered the good news for the Sunshine State. She was in Hollywood, in fact, after having met with executives from Disney, Netflix and Technicolour. The specific location of the studio is expected to be announced in the new financial year.
“Queensland’s screen industry is thriving, and my Government’s support for this new studio will bring a new wave of investment in the creative jobs of the future,” Palaszcuk said.
“Queensland is recognised as a production paradise and film-friendly state, and we are known internationally for our diverse and unrivalled natural locations, strong financial incentives, world-class facilities and award-winning talent and crew.”
Queensland has a thriving film industry, in part due to the existence of the Village Roadshow Studios, situated adjacent to the Warner Bros. Movie World theme park. Films recently shot there include Thor: Ragnarok, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and the upcoming Aquaman.
