Cannes hit Armageddon Time to open Jewish International Film Festival
Australia’s Jewish International Film Festival returns for its biggest line-up yet, and with an appropriately huge feature to open this year with.
From filmmaker James Gray (Ad Astra, The Lost City of Z), Armageddon Time will make its Australian Premiere as the Opening Night film of the Jewish International Film Festival 2022.
Academy Award-winners Jessica Chastain, Anthony Hopkins and Anne Hathaway star alongside Emmy winner Jeremy Strong for this coming-of-age tale set in 1980s Queens. Having received a seven-minute standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, the acclaimed film draws from Gray’s own childhood, relaying a story about the strength of family and the generational pursuit of the American Dream.
Artistic Director Eddie Tamir says, “We could not be more thrilled to open the festival with this critics’ favourite, a beautiful film with a lot of heart – the emotional impact and story will resonate with audiences universally. With the showstopping cast, we could not have thought of a better headliner for the festival, and it is only one of the many amazing films in this iteration of JIFF.”
JIFF will run nationally from 24 October to 7 December with full programme details releasing Friday, 16 September. Tickets are now on-sale for select screenings of Armageddon Time across the country. See below for JIFF Opening Night Events dates.
