Chart a course to thrills with the new trailer for Tom Holland’s Uncharted
Looking at the latest trailer for adventure flick Uncharted, you might feel your fingers itching to grab the nearest controller.
A few of the big-budget action scenes look like playable video game levels blown up onto the big screen, because that’s precisely what they are. Tom Holland stars as treasure hunter Nathan Drake in Uncharted, swinging into Australian cinemas from February 17.
There’s a scene of chandelier parkour that’s very reminiscent of wince-inducing Jackie Chan stunts, whereas some mid-air cargo plane chaos relies much more on CGI. Through it all, Holland gets to use some well-practiced Spidey senses and the sarcastic help of Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Sully.
After the tantalising first trailer set the stage, this second set of clues shows off more of Antonio Banderas’ villain Moncada, who fills Drake’s head with visions of sunken ships and the world’s biggest loot stash. There’s also a lot of hot girls threatening our heroes with weapons—Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer, and Tati Gabrielle as Moncada’s mercenary Braddock.
The path to seeing this much-anticipated blockbuster is pretty clear, with tickets available now to see Holland and Wahlberg at most major cinemas around the country.
But when it comes to the movie’s critical reception? The way forward is Uncharted, with many fans skeptical of how director Ruben Fleischer will adapt an already-cinematic video game series into a satisfying film. There are just so few good video game movies, and it’d be a shame if this one didn’t live up to all those years of fan-casting and speculation.
