Damon Gameau’s new documentary 2040 will premiere at Gold Coast Film Festival

Damon Gameau’s 2015 documentary That Sugar Film was a monster success at the local box office, becoming the most commercially successful Australian documentary of all time.

In it the actor-cum-filmmaker embarked on a Super Size Me type stunt, eating hugely sugary food to study what effects it would have on his body.

His highly anticipated follow up film, 2040, will premiere at the Opening Night of the Gold Coast Film Festival on April 3 at Arts Theatre in Hota, Surfer’s Paradise.

According to the synopsis on the festival program, Gameau “embarks on journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet.”

Discussing 2040 in a recent interview published on Variety, Gameau said:

“I wanted to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us. The aim was to shift things away from the mainstream narrative, which often overwhelms and paralyzes us from taking action. I didn’t just want a white man’s point of view.”

Tickets to 2040 can be purchased through the Gold Coast Film Festival website.
