Triple J have announced their top 50 best movie soundtracks, with Trainspotting coming in at number one and Pulp Fiction landing in second place. The remaining soundtracks in the top ten are Romeo + Juliet, Purple Rain, Star Wars, high Fidelity, Saturday Night Fever, Blues Brothers, Singles and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
The 50 selections make up a wide and eclectic list, spanning indie hits to prestigious Oscar-winning dramas to epics and blockbusters. Seven Australian films made the cut. They are Dogs in Space (#23), The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (#25), The Proposition (#36), Somersault (#40), Idiot Box (#44), The Boys (#46) and Bran Nue Day (#49).
On their website, Double J describe movie soundtracks as tools that “can completely alter the way you construe a scene and can make you completely change your opinion on a song you once hated (or loved)…Soundtracks can stand alone as glorious pieces of art, and, at their best, they make the art they accompany just that little bit better.”
Through the weekend of June 9 and June 10, Double J will broadcast all 50 movie soundtracks, and repeat them from 9am on Monday morning.
