Get Tickets for ‘Mr. Pip’ Red Carpet Charity Screening

A special Red Carpet screening of Kiwi director Andrew Adamson’s Mr. Pip, the 1990 Papua New Guinea-set war drama starring Hugh Laurie, will be hosted at Wellington’s Embassy Theatre Monday September 23 – a week and a half before its nationwide October 3 release. The fundraising event is in partnership with the Bougainville Library Trust, with all proceeds going to help build and stock a library in Arawa, Bougainville.

A short conversation with Adamson and producer Robin Scholes will precede the feature. Tickets are $40 each and include a glass of wine.

Adapted from New Zealand author Lloyd Jones’ acclaimed novel, the movie is set during the Papua New Guinea civil war, which has caused most of the teachers to flee the country. However, one white man chooses to stay behind: the eccentric Mr. Watts (Laurie), object of much curiosity and scorn, who sweeps out the ruined schoolhouse and begins to read to the children each day from Charles Dickens’ classic Great Expectations.

You can book at the Embassy Theatre on 04 384 7657, at www.deluxe.co.nz or in person at the Embassy box office. Tickets must be purchased by Friday September 20.
