Here are the earliest reactions to Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker
Now I know how moviegoers felt back in 1983 and 2005. Yet another trilogy of Star Wars films draws to a close, with the impending release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
This final movie is so close you can almost hear the ZWOMMMing™ of lightsabers from beyond the horizon, and some lucky super-fans have already taken to Twitter to discuss their first screening of the film.
I realized within the first 20 mins of #StarWars #TheRiseofSkywalker that it was the best film in this trilogy, and it kept getting better right through to the end. THANK YOU!!! #Maytheforcebewithyou

Initial reactions? As usual for such an over-hyped franchise with an extremely vocal online fanbase, the film is being feted as an “immensely satisfying and MASSIVE end to the saga,” with most early reviews taking on a glowing, tearful tone.
Just stepped out of #TheRiseofSkywalker. It’s an immensely satisfying and MASSIVE end to the saga. It somehow addresses issues, problematic characters, and most unanswered questions from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi too. pic.twitter.com/TMKeXCXuUx

#StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker…OH MY GOD! I am absolutely blown away! I’ve never been so satisfied by a film. This is the end of an era and a franchise that has defined my life and this did it justice in a way I didn’t imagine it could. You WILL cry…. pic.twitter.com/Jfx5bzdZOO

It’s a relief to hear that this third film acts as a satisfying conclusion to an often confusing trilogy – at least, apparently, in its second half. A few early viewers commented that the movies’ opening acts are a bit overstuffed.
STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is certainly the most convoluted Star Wars. There is a lot I liked, but the first half gets so bogged down with exposition and new plot and doodads and beacons and transmitters, it feels like it should have been three movies on its own.

#TheRiseofSkywalker is a lot. It’s like 9 movies of plot in one. Going to take me about 9 days to process.

Although press embargoes and a general sense of spoiler etiquette kept most viewers from really spilling their guts, we do have some intel on long-gestating rumours about queer representation within the franchise, and some baffled comments on the appearance of Emperor Palpatine.
Also, I can confirm there is queer representation in #StarWars #TheRiseofSkywalker. It lasts maybe two seconds, and you may miss it entirely. Welp.

My favorite Star Wars are the ones that take their time and focus on the characters. The whole first half felt like all exposition. It does get better. And Lando rules. But there’s just so much plot it feels so rushed. And the Emperor stuff is so weird.

Similarly to the controversial second film in the rebooted trilogy, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it looks like Abrams’ conclusion might spark a good deal of discussion. Whether that excites you or terrifies you might depend on how much time you spend on Twitter.
Well… #TheRiseOfSkywalker is a drastic departure from TLJ, but also not as invigorating as TFA. It is a movie packed with action (it’s seriously nonstop), but also jammed with fan service. @starwars fans – brace for the debates. pic.twitter.com/DjKo9ejRWw

#StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker is a lot. It’s a big, giant movie with a lot of spectacle and high stakes and it’s definitely going to start a conversation (or a lot of conversations) among fans.

The good news is that the rest of us (read: peasants) only have a few more days to wait until we can form our own opinions on how Rey, Finn, and (most importantly) BB-8 conclude their saga. Unless you’re one of those freaks with tickets to a midnight screening, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is opening on December 19.
When people talk about #StarWars , they talk about their childhoods. Their best memories. The people they loved and shared it with.#TheRiseOfSkywalker brings back all those feelings. And then some.
I absolutely loved it.
And now I feel … pic.twitter.com/5wkQh6v97G
