Holidayers become shark bait in the trailer for Aussie thriller Great White
Some people—some partypoopers—will tell you that after Jaws, there’s no good reason to make a shark movie. I can’t accept this. There have been so many splashily entertaining shark movies that I instead believe there should be a shark survival movie in cinemas every single summer for the rest of recorded time.
If you’ve already seen The Shallows, The Meg, and the ludicrous Aussie shark flick Bait, which features not only man-eating sharks but also a tsunami and armed robbery, then I’ve got good news. Great White, another pulse-pounding entry to the genre, is washing up on our shores this year.
The Queensland-set thriller is directed by Martin Wilson and stars Katrina Bowden, Aaron Jakubenko, Kimie Tsukakoshi, Tim Kano and Te Kohe Tuhaka. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, an exciting trailer has been released; check it out below.
How many of our poor holidaying protagonists will become Chum? And how will the survivors make it from their stranded lifeboat to safety, with one of the planet’s most ancient and innately terrifying predators lurking below? We’ll have to wait to find out, since there is currently no confirmed release date for Great White.
But hopefully, Great White is bound for cinema screens, since it’s precisely the kind of simple concept and thrilling execution that made Jaws one of the first ever modern blockbusters! Who knows, maybe this shark is the OG’s great grandchild or something.
