Boy, the MCU series WandaVision seems forever ago, doesn’t it? Sure, it was only released in 2021, but it feels like a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. Now, all this time later, Katherine Hahn’s villainous Agatha Harkness gets her very own series—and probably a heel-turn to boot.

What is Agatha All Along about?
Freed from her imprisonment in the town of Westview, New Jersey after three long years, the none-more-witchy Agatha seeks to regain her sorcerous powers with the help of gothy gay wannabe witch “Teen” (no other name given) and sets about assembling a coven to walk the Witches Road (the caps are important, we’re given to understand). Standing in her way is the… evil? Good?
It’s hard to get a read, given Agatha was a villain, but then so was Loki, and he got two seasons. Anyway, it’s Rio Vidal, played by the great Aubrey Plaza, who you should definitely check out in the upcoming My Old Ass. This one comes to us courtesy of WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer.
The cast of Agatha All Along
In addition to Hahn and Plaza, who both starred in Parks and Recreation, there’s Heartstopper‘s Joe Lock as Teen; Debra Jo Rupp is Sharon Davis, Westview resident turned witch; Sasheer Zamata is Jennifer Kale, coven member and potions expert; Ali Ahn is Alice Wu-Gulliver, another bun in the coven; Okwui Okpokwasili is Vertigo, a member of Salem’s Seven, which we’re not really across yet but it sounds ominous; the legendary Patti LuPone is 450-year-old Sicilian witch Lilia Calderu; plus there’s Maria Dizzia and Paul Adelstein. Cameos from the broader MCU seem to be largely absent, and thank Hecate for that.

Why we’re excited about Agatha All Along
Look, it may be flying in the face of the established protocol, but what we really want from Marvel right now is relatively self-contained stories that don’t require a doctorate in dorkology. This seems to fit the bill.
