How to watch Alien: Romulus in Australia

The bitch is back as Evil Dead director Fede Álvarez takes the reins from Ridley Scott to helm the latest dose of xenomorphic sci-fi/horror. Hopefully Sir Ridley will get to finish his mooted trilogy of prequels, but in the meantime: old school Alien action, here we come!

How to watch Alien: Romulus in Australia

Alien: Romulus is now available to rent or buy in Australia.

What is Alien: Romulus about?

Sometime between the first two movies in the franchise (making this an interquel, the rarest flavour of franchise extender) a group of space colonists are salvaging a space station when, lo and behold, they encounter a space monster. That thin synopsis aside, info about this film is being kept more securely than the Weyland-Yutani Bioweapons Division’s quarterly forecasts.

Expect a lot of running around in corridors. It’s probably a return to formula after the rather mixed reactions to the last couple of films, but then again, maybe they’ve got something weirder and wilder lined up for us.

The cast of Alien: Romulus

Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) is Rain Carradine; David Jonsson (Rye Lane) is Andy; Isabela Merced (Madame Web) is Kay; Archie Renaux is Tyler; Spike Fearn is Bjorn; and Aileen Wu is Navarro. We could hazard a guess that the small cast indicates a real back-to-basics approach to the franchise, but we’re working from thin evidence.

Why we’re excited about Alien: Romulus

Well, we’re certainly curious. It’s hardly controversial to note that the later Alien movies have met with mixed responses from audiences and critics alike, but they tend to age well—even Ridley Scott’s last two efforts look better with hindsight.

How this latest offering fits in with the established canon or, indeed, Noah Hawley’s upcoming TV series, is anyone’s guess. But Fede is a bit of a gun, the cast is solid, and we’re always up to watch terrified people run through spaceship corridors for a couple of hours.
