How to watch Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 in Australia

Rock and roll dreams come true in this high-spirited anime.

When is Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 being released in Australia?

Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 is screening in Australian cinemas from October 17, 2024.

What is Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2 about?

First it was a manga created by artist and writer Aki Hamaji, which was adapted into a wildly popular 12 episode anime TV series, which has now been boiled down into two movies which are conveniently screening together. Our protagonist is shy high school girl Hitori Gotō, an introvert who dreams of being a rock guitarist. Having no friends means she practices all the time, honing her skills, which comes in handy when her classmate, Nijika Ijichi, is in sudden and desperate need of a new axe-wielder for her combo, Kessoku Band. It’s essentially a rock ‘n’ roll coming of age comedy.

The cast of Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2

Yoshino Aoyama voices Hitori Gotō; Sayumi Suzushiro is Nijika Ijichi; and Saku Mizuno and Ikumi Hasegawa are Ryō Yamada and Ikuyo Kita, respectively, the other members of Kessoku Band. If the character names ring a bell, that’s because all their family names are derived from the members of real life J-Pop band Asian Kung-Fu Generation. All the episodes are named after their songs, too, which probably won’t show up in a compilation film, but it’s nice to know.

Why we’re excited about Bocchi the Rock! Recap Part 1 & 2

The anime series struggled a bit to find an audience in the face of stiff competition, but became a viral sensation once clips started hitting social media. To the point where not only are the manga books regularly selling out, Japan has seen a massive spike in guitar sales as kids decide to get their School of Rock on. This is undeniably a good thing, so there’s definitely something going on here, to the point where your humble anonymous newshound, normally not one for anime, is going to check this one out. You should, too.
