How to watch body swap horror comedy Freaky in Australia

It’s a crying shame that Blumhouse’s new horror-comedy Freaky came out on a Thursday rather than a Friday. Clearly inspired by the Freaky Friday strain of body swap comedies, the Thursday release feels like a big missed opportunity!

Regardless, Freaky is shaping up to be one of the funniest and fiercest new horror films of the year, starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton as a ruthless serial killer and a lonely teen outcast. Actually, wait, it stars Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton as a lonely teen outcast and a ruthless serial killer.

Freaky is directed by Christopher Landon, who also nailed the similarly zingy and satirical Happy Death Day.

It looks like both movies skewer the high school/college slasher with a nice balance of humour and fidelity to the genre, with some of the trailer’s best moments calling out horror’s most predictable twists and turns. Like when one of our hero’s terrified friends points out that since he’s gay and his companion is black, “we are so dead!”

Freaky is now playing in Australian cinemas; check out our session times below. Hell, you could even wait until a Friday to see it, just to stay on theme.
