How to watch detention thriller series One of Us Is Lying in Australia
Detention sucks—the high school equivalent of being sent to the naughty corner to think about what you’ve done. The only thing worse than getting sent to detention with four other misbehaving teens…is not making it out alive.
All episodes of One of Us Is Lying are arriving on Stan throughout October. The remaining five episodes come out in two increments over the following Fridays, giving you plenty of time in-between to guess who could be the adolescent killer.
Based on a bestselling novel by Karen M. McManus, the TV adaptation has already drawn comparison to that classic tale of teen angst in a detention setting, The Breakfast Club. Although in this eight-part series, the stakes are somewhat higher than getting caught by the principal and/or smooching the popular girl.
The main similarity is in how our detained heroes align with classic high school archetypes: the mean girl, the bad boy, the valedictorian, the jock, etc. But where’s the Ally Sheedy of the group? He’s quickly killed off, suffocating in front of the other four while nobody else is around to witness it. And they’ve all got some reason to want him dead. Juicy, right?
Expect some stereotype-busting, unlikely friendships (or romances??), and a shattering revelation in the last few episodes. An Australian actor by the delightful name of Cooper Van Grootel stars as the school’s resident drug dealer and diamond in the rough.
One of Us Is Lying is one of this month’s hottest teen thriller releases, the most notable competitor being Prime Video’s I Know What You Did Last Summer adaptation. You’ve got time to burn through both this month—that is, if you can keep two sets of misfit, murderous friend groups apart from each other in your memory.
