Hard-hitting opioid thriller Crisis is now playing in cinemas

The ongoing opioid abuse epidemic across the United States is perhaps not the first ‘crisis’ that comes to mind when it comes to making a compelling, glamorous drama film. The cycle of prescription, addiction and devastation is at once widespread and somewhat invisible, in film and TV at least.

Gary Oldman, Armie Hammer, Evangeline Lily and Michelle Rodriguez star in Crisis, a drama film which attempts to tell the story of painkiller trafficking in the US, perhaps making it one of the first of its kind.

Like the recent Cherry, Crisis feels like a number of troubling episodes all bound into one linear tale, with three intersecting thriller narratives all converging. Check out the trailer below for a sense of the intriguing, drawn-from-true-life stories that make up the film.

The big drawcard here is probably the film’s prestige cast, such as Oscar-winning winner Gary Oldman and Armie Hammer, whose recent accusations of sexual assault cast something of a pallor over the film’s release. Hammer’s involvement in the film has since been downplayed by co-stars.
