How to watch haunting Nordic thriller series The Chestnut Man in Australia

As far as serial killer calling cards go, a sweet little tchotchke made of chestnuts might not rank as one of the most intimidating. It’s a tad scarier than The Snowman’s twee scribblings, though.

In Netflix’s new Danish thriller series, a figurine made out of chestnuts is the only clue that detectives have, to solve the disappearance of a politician’s child. All six episodes of The Chestnut Man are now available on Netflix—can you get to the bottom of this haunting mystery before our Copenhagen cop heroes do?

Based on a novel from Søren Sveistrup, The Chestnut Man begins its trailer with some rosy-cheeked Danish children singing a happy song inviting the titular folklore character into their homes…so you know some seriously disturbing stuff is going down.

Accordingly, we then see detectives investigating forests and abandoned warehouses, all in that dark and foreboding Nordic noir style. “There’ll be more killings”, the dialogue promises—expect a few discovered bodies and ominous cliffhangers at the end of each episode.

If you’re already a fan of crime-thriller lit or even of The Killing more specifically, this new series comes from the same creator: and nobody does this genre better of late than Nordic genre filmmakers.

Every episode of The Chestnut Man is already creepily waiting for you on the Netflix homepage: go get stuck into the investigation, great autumnal fashion, and shocking revelations of how the killer and detectives probably share a past. You know—that old chestnut (sorry but it had to be done).
