How to watch Invasion season 2 in Australia
Are you ready for more slow-burn apocalyptic alien action? Good, because Invasion season 2 hits Apple TV+ on August 23.
With a vibe not a million miles away from the recent French/British War of the Worlds TV series, Invasion tells the tale of an overwhelming extra-terrestrial invasion from the perspective of various characters around the world—think Independence Day but actually good. There’s Golshifteh Farahani’s Long Island mum trying to keep her kids alive, Billy Barratt’s bullied British teen, Shiori Kutsuna’s Japanese communications technician trying to contact her astronaut girlfriend, Shamier Anderson’s American soldier battling to get home from Afghanistan, and more—including Sam Neill as a small-town sheriff.
Not everyone made it to season 2, of course, but we’ll spare you the spoilers. While Invasion’s first season was a sprawling affair, placing various intimate human dramas against the epic backdrop of a global alien attack, the second season tightens up the focus somewhat; while various characters are struggling to survive in the ravaged, post-apocalyptic world that Earth has been swiftly transformed into, resistance is firming up under the auspices of the World Defense Coalition, who are gathering information and alien artefacts in a desperate attempt to put up some kind of fight against the creepy invaders (and the aliens here are next-level unnerving).
New additions to the cast this year include Enver Gjokaj, Nedra Marie Taylor, and Naian González Norvind in as-yet undisclosed roles.
Created by Simon Kinberg (The Martian) and David Weil (Citadel), Invasion has been a slow burn affair up to this point, but what it may have lacked in pace it made up for with intelligence and thoughtful characterisation. It looks like we’re going full steam ahead this season, though. We are always up for a smart riff on old sci-fi tropes, and this alien epic certainly ticks that box.
