How to watch It Ends With Us in Australia

Mrs Deadpool herself, Blake Lively, stars in and produces this adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s beloved and heart-breaking (so we’ve heard) 2016 novel.

How to watch It Ends With Us in Australia

It Ends With Us is screening exclusively in Australian cinemas right now.

What is It Ends With Us about?

Following the death of her father, florist Lily Bloom has a meet-cute with handsome neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, and things progress as they tend to do in standard issue romantic dramas. Alas, Ryle has anger issues stemming from childhood trauma that manifest as domestic violence, the sort of thing that Lily has been exposed to by the actions of her violent father. Her high school sweetheart, Atlas Corrigan (what is up with the names in this thing?) quickly twigs that something is wrong, but generational trauma is a hell of a thing. Can our heroine break free of this cycle of violence? We hope so.

The cast of It Ends With Us

Blake Lively is Lily Bloom, with Isabela Ferrer as the young Lily in flashbacks; Justin Baldoni (Jane the Virgin) is Ryle Kincaid, and also handles directing duties; Brandon Sklenar is Atlas Corrigan, with Alex Neustaedter as the young Atlas; Jenny Slate (Parks and Recreation) is Allysa, Ryle’s sister; Hasan Minhaj is Marshall; and Amy Morton and Kevin McKidd are Lily’s parents, Jenny and Andrew, respectively.

Why we’re excited about It Ends With Us

Once again, we must default to “guardedly optimistic”. While the book did huge numbers, reviews of the film have been fairly mixed, and rumours of production dramas have not helped. Lively reportedly hired a new editor to recut the film against director Baldoni’s wishes, which rarely works out well.

Still, the box office has been strong and, let’s face it, it’s kind of rare these days to find this kind of old school romantic weepie outside of streaming. So, if this is your cup of tea, get along—and bring tissues.
