What is Killers of the Flower Moon about?
Based on the brilliant book by David Grann, who also gave us The Lost City of Z, the film sets its scene in post-World War One Oklahoma, a time when the Osage were the richest people in the world thanks to oil being discovered on their reservation. This didn’t sit particularly well with the local whites, especially wealthy cattleman William King Hale (Robert De Niro), who conspires to murder dozens of Osage in order to funnel their land rights into his own greedy hands.
In addition to old Scorsese fave De Niro, current Scorsese fave Leonardo DiCaprio is on board as Hale’s nephew, Ernest Burkhart, who is pressed into the plot and marries Osage woman Mollie (Lily Gladstone) in order to inherit her rights should she, uh, mysteriously pass away.
