How to watch David Farrier’s real-life psychological horror Mister Organ in Australia
A simple investigation into a strange car-clamping incident turns into a psychological nightmare for one reporter in Mister Organ. Find out more about its Australian release.
Mister Organ
Having chilled the spines of audiences in Texas during Fantastic Fest and broken box office records back in its home country of New Zealand, Aussie viewers will now get the chance to watch this real-life cat-n-mouse story when Mister Organ opens in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth cinemas from 11 December.
The film follows filmmaker and journalist David Farrier (Tickled, Dark Tourist) as he opens an investigation that pushes him to the limits of his sanity. What starts as a strange car-clamping incident turns into psychological warfare with the titular Organ, a series of relentless mind games lasting years.
First reactions to the film included Slash Film’s Chris Evangalista, describing the film as “darkly funny” and “frequently horrifying”. Flicks writer Tim Batt called it “a gripping watch… fascinating and mesmerising in the worst ways possible.” And then there’s the great Stephen Fry who tweeted (from a now removed account): “I’ve just emerged blinking and trembling from Mister Organ and couldn’t recommend a film more highly.”
Speaking to Flicks cinema editor Steve Newall, Farrier explains that while he’s proud of the film, he never wants to think about Mister Organ again. “If I could not have made this, I would not have fucking made it.”
Curious? Catch Mister Organ in cinemas and keep an eye out for virtual Q&A screenings on 10 and 11 December. You’ll definitely have questions.
