How to watch My Old Ass in the UK

My Old Ass is now screening in UK cinemas.

What is My Old Ass about?

Tripping absolute balls on her 18th birthday with her besties Ro and Ruthie, young queer woman Elliott hallucinates an encounter with her older future self. Whom amongst us, right? Things get extra weird when future Elliott turns out to contactable by text, and repeatedly warns her younnger self to avoid anyone named Chad. Then Chad turns up, and he’s a nice guy. But Elliott’s gay, so that shouldn’t matter, right? Well, maybe…but people are complicated.

Directed by Megan Park, who also gave us indie hit The Fallout, you can file this one under “trenchant queer coming of age sci-fi romantic comedy.” And there’s a lot of room on that shelf.

The cast of My Old Ass

Newcomer Maisy Stella is Elliott, with the awesome Aubrey Plaza as the older Elliott; Percy Hynes White is Chad; Maddie Ziegler and Kerrice Brooks are Ruthie and Ro; Maria Dizzia and Alain Goulem are Kathy and Tom, Elliott’s parents. Plus Seth Isaac Johnson and Carter Trozzolo are Max and Spencer, Elliott’s brothers.

Why we’re excited about My Old Ass

Having seen the thing, let me tell you: it’s sweet, funny, disarming, effortlessly diverse, positive, and honest, both emotionally and in how actual young adults actually live (according to my memories and observations, at any rate). Aubrey Plaza, who is currently having a hell of a moment thanks to this, Agatha All Along, and Megalopolis, is the big name in play. But the whole cast is great, and I’d expect to see a lot more of Maisy Stella going forward. It’s an absolute gem of a film.
