How to watch season 2 of feel-good football comedy Ted Lasso in Australia
He’s got a Ned Flanders moustache, a Kansas accent, and his last name is the cowboyish ‘Lasso’, for god’s sakes. Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is about as ‘Murican as one can be, yet here he is for another season of coaching an English Premier League team.
Like its clumsy main character, Ted Lasso is a show that really sneaks up on you, a sleeper hit that has become one of the only real breakout titles on Apple TV+‘s slate of original shows. The second season is available for Apple TV+ subscribers right now, airing all 12 episodes weekly from July 23 to October 1.
When we return to Ted, his beleaguered support staff, and the down-and-out team members of AFC Richmond, the gang are facing down seven straight games that ended in a tie. “We’ve got work to do”, points out the club’s owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), summing up the below trailer’s montage of booing crowds, upturned tables and awkward training seshes.
The friendly role earned SNL alum Sudeikis a surprise Golden Globe in the 2021 ceremony, for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy series. The actor seemed genuinely unprepared to win, wearing a tie-dye stoner hoodie and sounding extremely bewildered and/or baked while delivering his acceptance speech. How very unpretentious, in a Ted Lasso kind of way.
Could Richmond win some games, or even become the new champions of the whole League? That doesn’t really matter to fans of Ted Lasso. We just want to see feel-good team sport shenanigans, with a delightfully watchable trans-Atlantic sense of humour.
