How to watch Take My Hand in Australia

Radha Mitchell stars in this romantic Aussie tearjerker.

When is Take My Hand being released in Australia?

Take my Hand is screening in selected Australian cinemas now.

What is Take My Hand about?

Debut writer and director John Raftopoulos and his wife, Claire Jensz, who is an executive producer on the film, drew on their own experiences for this one, which sees Mitchell as Laura, an Australian financier living a glamorous life in London, only to scoot back to her childhood home in rural New South Wales after the one-two punch of her husband’s death and a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Once home, she reconnects with her childhood sweetheart, Michael, now a divorced single father to a teenage daughter. Will sparks fly between them once more? It seems likely.

MS is the core theme here, and understandably so, as producer Jensz has the condition. In fact, MS Australia launched the trailer on March 30, which is World MS Day.

The cast of Take My Hand

Radha Mitchell, recently seen in the underrated Blueback, is Laura; Adam Demos (Sex/Life) is Michael; Bart Edwards is Jason, Laura’s first husband; Robyn Gibbes as Joan, Laura’s mother, who is also dealing with MS; Jessi Robertson is Bella, Michael’s daughter; with Xavier Molyneux, Fraser, Steve Bastoni, Darren Gilshenan, and singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte in supporting roles.

Why we’re excited about Take My Hand

Judging by the trailer, Take my Hand is a dedicated tearjerker, so that may influence your viewing choices. And so far the few reviews have been less than stellar. Having said that, the main aim of the game here is to centre multiple sclerosis in the narrative and raise awareness of the little-understood disease. A degenerative nerve condition, MS is a stone cold bitch, and you almost certainly know someone who deals with it (four people at last count, personally) so it might be worth your while using Take my Hand to educate yourself a bit.
