How to watch the 2021 Golden Globes in Australia
The Golden Globes are traditionally seen as the start of ‘awards season’, that time of year when the entertainment world gets caught up in scandalising snubs, heartwarming wins and the best of the red carpet.
Luckily for Australian viewers, we can catch all those moments live at the same time as the US. Here’s our guide on how, when and where to watch the 71st Annual Golden Globes.
With this year’s coronavirus shuffle, the Golden Globes will take place on February 28; the original date that the Oscars were slated for, in fact. The ceremony’s current airdate and time for Australian screens is Monday March 1, around 12pm noon AEDT, but keep your eyes peeled for any changes closer to the event’s date.
As for where Aussies can catch the whole awards ceremony, Foxtel is your best bet. Foxtel’s press release emphasised what appear to be exclusive broadcasting rights, stating that the broadcast will be” LIVE and exclusively on FOXTEL’s FOX ARENA direct from the US on Monday, March 1 at 12.00pm AEDT, with a primetime encore at 7.30pm AEDT and On Demand.”
There’s also the chance that this year’s corona-conscious ceremony could be fully digital, meaning the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will set up their own device-friendly way to stream all the night’s wins. Space this space; if we hear anything more we’ll let you know.
Maybe the whole event will be a somewhat chill catch-up with hosts and nominees in their own homes, like the below announcement of all 2021’s Golden Globes nominees. It’s pretty much just Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson reading out names in their glam houses.
One huge draw of this year’s Golden Globes is the return of hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who will actually be riffing at their wealthy audience from two different coasts: Fey will broadcast from New York’s Rockefeller Centre, whilst Poehler will be in the ceremony’s traditional home of LA’s Beverly Hilton.
At least if there’s lag issues, we have two hilarious SNL alum to distract us from it, right?
