How to watch The Lost City in Australia
The real star of The Lost City is Sandra Bullock…’s fuchsia-sequinned jumpsuit. It’s an incredibly impractical garment that holds up despite motorbike chases, underwater cave dives, and getting bounced out of Channing Tatum’s dinky blue getaway car.
The Lost City is now playing in Australian cinemas, the ideal goofy adventure rom-com to transport you to a mysterious continent of laughs and hot celebrities this weekend. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum play a burned-out romance novelist and her hunky cover model—in short, the kind of people who definitely do not belong on an international swashbuckling expedition.
But when evil billionaire Daniel Radcliffe kidnaps her and forces her to find a mythological treasure described in one of her books, Tatum comes along for the ride. After his initial plan of working with professional badass Brad Pitt doesn’t quite work out.
Despite only having a short cameo role in the actual film, Pitt is in full action-man mode in the trailer below, running up a palm tree and socking baddies to rescue Bullock. Hmmm to be rescued by Brad Pitt or Channing Tatum…a dilemma countless viewers would probably love to face.
Much as you’d expect from the trailer above, the innate charms and great physical comedy skills of Bullock and Tatum do the heavy lifting here, with a purposefully generic plot and setting. Our review of the film celebrated the stars but not the aesthetic:
“The Lost City is very dependent on CGI despite being shot on location in Colombia, quickly getting our hunky leads to villages and compounds to avoid one too many green-screen mountain vistas. The juiciest bit is some leeches glued onto Tatum’s buns, but nothing else feels much like the splashy Indiana Jones jaunt we were promised.”
Ah well: we’ve already had four Indy movies, something else is very welcome. Find a screening of The Lost City and get lost in the buns yourself.
