The Lost Tiger
What is The Lost Tiger about?
Written and directed by Chantelle Murray—and the first animated feature film directed by an Indigenous woman—The Lost Tiger tells the tale of the titular big cat. Only he’s a little cat, a tiger cub named Teo, who finds himself lost and subsequently adopted by a travelling troupe of wrestling kangaroos. As you do. Teo has no aptitude for wrestling, but he does want to be reunited with his tiger family. And so beings an epic quest to get the cute little carnivore back where he belongs.
The cast of The Lost Tiger
A pretty decent local voice cast are on hand for this one, including Thomas Weatherall (Heartbreak High) as our feline friend Teo; Nakkiah Lui (Black Comedy) and Jimi Bani (Black Snow) as kangaroo couple Kara and Red; Rhys Darby (Hunt for the Wilderpeople and every second New Zealand film) as somewhat shady museum staffer Plato, who helps our little guy on his journey; and Celeste Barber (Runt) as Quinella, the villian of the piece.

Why we’re excited about The Lost Tiger
Hmm…hard to say. The Lost Tiger is clearly aimed at younger kids, and there’s nothing wrong with that; they should enjoy the colourful characters and life-affirming themes. Having said that, whether there’s much there for older children and parents is anyone’s guess. There’s also very little info out there about the film, so we’re working from a limited data set. Still, at minimum it seems like it’s going to be a decent hour-and-a-half distraction for the more youthful youth.
