Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Boy has broken Australian box office records
Last month Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Boy arrived in cinemas across the country, inspiring audiences with the story of the Glasgow-born musician who rose from a poor and traumatic childhood to become one of the greatest legends in Australian music history.
Barnes has achieved tremendous success in his life and now another string has been added to his bow. Working Class Boy has broken Australian box office records, taking over $500k in its opening weekend and over $650k to date.
This is the biggest opener ever for a locally-made documentary (overtaking the opening of Bra Boys in 2007). The film has also had the biggest opening for a documentary in Australia since the Michael Jackson concert documentary This Is It in 2009.
Additionally, Working Class Boy opened on the largest number of screens (over 220 nationwide) of any Australian documentary.
Our critic Blake Howard recommends the film. In his review he described Working Class Boy as a documentary that “is very likely to make grown men cry.”
The Flicks team would like to make the following statement: ON YA BARNESY!
