Melbourne will celebrate all things Juliette Binoche with ‘Juliette Binoche Forever’
What’s the worst thing about Juliette Binoche? Nothing. She’s awesome. Fact.
The Flicks team are far from the only admirers of the veteran French actor, who has won a truckload of awards over the years including an Oscar for 1996’s The English Patient.
Last year she was described by IndieWire as “nothing short of one of the greatest actresses of her generation.”
To celebrate the release of Binoche’s critically acclaimed new film Let the Sunshine In, in which she plays a Parisian painter on the hunt for love, Melbourne’s ACMI Cinemas are launching a season of films looking back on her career.
Juliette Binoche Forever, which runs from January 24 to February 12, will screen Let the Sunshine In in plus Another Woman’s Life, The Wait, Clouds of Sils Maria, Certified Copy and Three Colours: Blue.
Here’s the event’s official synopsis. Visit the ACMI website for more information and to book tickets.
Synopsis: Juliette Binoche’s warm, wry humour and charismatic versatility has seen her defying expectations for over 30 years. In honour of her pivotal role in Claire Denis’ newest feature, Let the Sunshine In, we’re taking a look back at some of her most fascinating roles.
This petite saison of Binoche beauties includes Another Woman’s Life by French actor/director Sylvie Testud, and Clouds of Sils Maria, featuring the role created especially for her by Oliver Assayas after she challenged him to make a film that genuinely explored the female experience.
Completing the season is Binoche’s groundbreaking and heart-breaking role in Kieslowski’s Three Colours: Blue, her collaboration with Abbas Kiarostami in Certified Copy and Piero Messina’s often-overlooked The Wait.
