Morricone Youth will perform live scores to Mad Max and Night of the Living Dead at Sydney Festival
Cult New York band Morricone Youth will perform original live scores for two classic films at the Sydney Festival, which kicks off in January.
The key word is “George.” There will be performances accompanying screenings of George Miller’s 1979 masterpiece Mad Max, and to George Romero’s pioneering 1968 zombie movie Night of the Living Dead.
The screenings/performances will take place at Carriageworks in Sydney, on January 25 (Night of the Living Dead) and January 26 (Mad Max).
The Morricone Youth made a name for itself by performing bold reinterpretations to the soundtracks of classic films. A blogger for New York Music Daily wrote, “It’s hard to think of a band more committed to darkly cinematic themes over the past almost twenty years than Morricone Youth.”
Formed in New York in 1992, the band is led by guitarist/founder Devon E. Levins, who has been a dedicated soundtrack record collector since the mid-90s.
There’s also John Castro (bass and vocals), Dan Kessler (synths and keyboard), Jefferson Rabb (keyboard), Brian Kantor (drums) and Ayo Awosika (vocalist).
Sydney Festival runs from January 6 to January 28. To buy tickets to Mad Max visit here, and for Night of the Living Dead visit here.
