News: 42 to Get NZ Screening, Expendables 3 Plot and more

The Expendables 2

Love it or hate it, The Expendables franchise has been a sizeable hit for Sylvester Stallone and his boys (re: the actors, not his biceps). The third entry has just moved into the principal photography stage, prompting Lionsgate and Millennium Films to drop an official synopsis of the film and it’s cast list:

The Expendables 3 will feature Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to their roles in the first two films with Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford joining the all-star cast along with Kellan Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables — but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

So Mel plays a backstabbing arms dealer, Stallone finally deals with the fact that he’s old, and there’s no word on three high-profile names – Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich and Nicolas Cage – that were originally confirmed to be in the film. Perhaps they’re not essential…

42 to Get NZ Screening

Last week, we pointed out that the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 skipped NZ cinemas. Luckily, we’re about to be proven wrong with Baseball New Zealand set to screen the film at Auckland’s Sky City Theatre for a special One Night Only screening in a fundraising effort to send the 18U Junior Diamondblacks to Arizona for “the biggest college and professional showcase tournament of its kind in North America”.

42 is the true story of American baseball legend Jackie Robinson who became the first black Major League Baseball player, debuting with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Robinson is played by Chadwick Boseman (The Express), with Harrison Ford as Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey – who ushered in the batter’s career.

Be a good sort and help these future sports stars on their journey. All you have to do is click the link below, grab a ticket and watch a good movie. Sweet deal, right?

First Still of Next X-Men

Bleeding Cool found the first still of X-Men: Days of Future Past on a Tumblr page, featuring Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, James McAvoy’s Xavier and Nicholas Hoult’s Hank – who must have found a ‘cure’ for his Beast form. Or shaved. Arduously.

Your curiosity level in this image will probably double if you’ve seen the stinger at the end of The Wolverine.
